Repotting a mature hydrangea
in Plants
The wooden planter in which my hydrangea and bergenia have resided for several years has just finally collapsed completely, I plan to put the bergenia in the garden but want to repot the hydrangea - I've already bought a replacement planter for it. I can't remember what planting medium I used at the time and now I don't know what's best. Any advice on this please? I am not looking to change the colour or anything like that, just to appreciate the specimen, which has sentimental value being a cutting originally from my Dad's garden. So I want it to last a nice long time!

I repotted some in Rose and Shrub compost, probably J Arthur Bowers.
What colour is it? If it's a blue one and you want it to remain blue then you need ericaceous compost. If it's pink or white then I'd use JI No 3 or as Lyn says, a good quality shrub compost
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Thank you folks - it's a pink one and definitely wasn't in ericaceous compost previously.
I've done that now and it looks quite happy, so far as I know what a happy hydrangea looks like!
