Growing Dahlia's from tubers
in Plants
Hi can any one help I want to grow Dahila's from tubers (BISHOP OF OXFORD). My kitchen windowsill isn't big enough, Can I grow them in a large seed tray covered by a lid to help to contain the heat in?

They're better off in pots if growing from tubers.
Tubers are quite big, seed trays tend to be shallow. I grow them in largish flower pots from mid March in the greenhouse to plant out in the garden when the frosts are over. Otherwise, plant them directly in the ground in early May so the frosts are over by the time the leaves come up. But they will flower later. Can you fit a flower pot on a windowsill? The tuber needs to be about 6 inches deep in the pots, depending on their size, so that there is about an inch of soil over them. They can later be planted a bit deeper. Don't forget to feed and water them. They don't need a lid.
I had the same problem as you last year so started some off in a seed tray filled with moist compost on a table in my warm garage. They don't need light til they had shoots. They started off fine.
This year I have done as busy Lizzie suggests as I am lucky enough to have a greenhouse now.
Thanks for the replies. Can I grow them on table in bedroom? as I don't have greenhouse
