    Thanks, Izzy. To all who have contributed to this thread; apologies if I appear to be harping on about this scarifying thing, but it's become personal. Between me and that moss there's only gonna be one winner. I just ain't quie sure who it will be, yet. image

    Well, the winner was the moss, or whatever else it is which is causing the lawn to become patchy and in some places dry looking, despite days and days of alternate sun and rain. I've decided to give the lawn treatment firm another go, because whatever ails this lawn its currently beyond me to fix. Meantime I'll concentrate my attentions on the many bushes and shrubs around the place which have been neglected whilst I've been fixated on this darned grass.

    Thanks to all for your advice and encouragement. It won't be wasted because everything I've been told to do with this grass is burned indelibly into my brain, and will be put to good use once I decide to have another go at taking this, or maybe the next lawn on unassisted.
