Heleniums growth rate ?

PerkiPerki Posts: 2,526

Hello, how fast do Heleniums spread ? I making an order soon and I am unsure on how many plants to order?

I am buying them off dorest perennials its the only place I can find who sell Actaea simplex james compton, I thought I buy the heleniums at the same time. Has anybody had any dealing with dorest perennials ?

Thanks Verdun, I would prefer James Compton but I do like the Brunette as well. The heleniums  I am looking at are Sahin - Moerheim beauty - feuersiegel - Waltraut.

Hi Perki. As you love heleniums (so do I) and if you have room, why not grow them from seed? I have approx. 20 plants that I sowed last Summer and can't wait to plant them out soon. They are really easy to propogate and it will save you a fortune.

Hi winniecat , i dont know if its true but I am sure I read somewhere that heleniums don't come true to seed. Ideally I would like to grow everything from seed

I've always bought heleniums one at a time. On a budget and so many plants I want! My tall yellow ones are now in sizable clumps in 3 places, but they aren't at all invasive. I have Sahin's Early that I bought last year, but I won't divide it just yet and Moorheim's Beauty which I probably could divide now, and another orangey one I've forgotten the name of.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
