brambles

hi there. any suggestions on how to deal with these brambles please.they are well established and there is very little space to get to the base of them.many thanks. tom mciver.

    I'd use loppers (for extra reach and keep cutting them back as low down as possible and repeat monthly. Hopefully the lack of light, competition for water and the continual chopping will weaken them enough that they will give up.

    Mine never give up. Sometimes I paint the cut bits with weedkiller if I can reach them. I think the birds sit in the shrubs dropping seeds.

    I'd let them send out long shoots then treat those with Roundup gel. You could then insert the long growths into polythene bags if you're worried about the holly.

    Much the same as Hosta. I'd pull all the leaders out into a an area that only has bare earth underneath it and then spray them with SBK. You don't have to spray the whole plant, just the leaders.
