Joe Swift's piece on Friday 13th March

Becky6Becky6 Posts: 2
Hi All I was watching Joe's piece on town gardens on Friday night and I admired one of the plants I saw and wondered if anyone could help me identify it. I've tried looking for a plant list on the episode guide but I can't see anything . Does anyone know what bamboo or tall grass was in the slim container? It was the container by the house and it looked about 5-6ft tall Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you Becky

Sure, it is Phyllostachys Aurea aka Golden Bamboo.

They did have lovely semi-mature clumps in the planters. I have it and have a mix of whispy growth (I should remove it as it will not form thick poles and removing it will allow growth into existing poles) and semi-mature poles. They tend to come up green then go yellow in full sun. I feed my bamboo with chicken pellets and water it in summer. They do shed a lot of leaves at this time of year for some weeks/months.
