raise bed

Hi all,

Last year we made three raised bed plots and just planted potatoes and leeks. we got blight on the potatoes and scab.

My question is what would be best to plant this season and is it best to give the beds a good dig or just weed and leave. I have a lot of compost bins and would like to put the compost on as well.

Many thanks

Roots follow leeks, so you could plant spuds, beetroot, carrots, parsnips, radish etc...they don't like the soil to rich although spuds grow well in ground manured the previous autumn.

Brassica' follow spuds, so you could plant cabbage, brussels, calabrese, kale, swede, turnip, kohi rabi etc...

The spud bed will have had a good dig when you harvested the spuds so weed and mulch. So long as your compost is rotted down it will be fine on both beds.

Pea's and beans could go in either bed.

    Hope this is helpful.

Grow early potatoes; they will be out of the ground before the blight comes.
