I've noticed if i use fine (3 or 4 mm) horticultural grit as a deep mulch around the base of plants that the slugs like this seems to reduce the attacks, Must be too dry or abrasive for the little darlings.
Thank you for your help. Sadly we have no hedghogs left, the last one died several years ago but I will take your advice because we have a thirsty badger visiting & this garden is not a bar!

Afraid not, they will just love hiding and breeding under that, but you could hide a few slug pellets under it.
Thank you. I was afraid it might be of no use even though it was recommended on a gardening program, can't remember which.
I won't try the pellets but I may well be out with my torch & use beer traps.
