Cucumber planting advice

Hello all, after some advice regarding cucumbers, I am growing from seed (got 7 healthy Marketmore seedlings just started) indoors of course, but wanted some advice on spacing, in my head I have 18 inches?

also what makes a good companion plant please? thinking for the base if possible as i hate to waste any space,

  • Yes, 18 inches to 2ft apart would be about right...although for the life of me (unless you are a commercial grower) I can't understand why any want more than one plant, given the amount of fruits they produce. image

It is important to make a mound of soil to plant them on, as they are very prone to stem rot in the early days of planting out. This is to avoid accumulations of water around the stem, which gets extremely cold during the night.

    Thanks for the replies all.

Growing outdoors but won't plant outside until mid-late April (South East),

We do eat a lot of fruit and veg, I am not quite a veggie but close, plus I will likely give a plant or two away to family anyway.

Grew one plant last year and it was fantastic, such lovely flavour.

Will be grown up trellis (yet to make this)

Thanks image Yeah I loved them, loved picking and cutting up in garden with kids, they're amazed by it.

Well I am in process of building a 'lean to' greenhouse that they will sit in/under, but agree, typically the day I plant them it'll go cold. Sods law!

cucumbers are really nice remember you can cut in to pieces with no skin or middle stuff  and cook in butter in a frying pan yummy and make cucumber soup - I want to grow loads this year   like them in my sandwiches

I grow them at back of veg bed with sweetcorn in front
