Yellow magnolia??
Hi guys, I'm contemplating a yellow magnolia for a yellow/blue border, it is pretty good conditions for a magnolia there and my others seem to well in my garden, but I've never had a yellow one and heard mixed reviews about the different varieties. Does anyone have any experience with them? or varieties they would recommend? Cheers.

We have one called Yellow Bird. Fairly new plant, but so far it has done well.
The purple ones flower freely even as smallish shrubs. Yellow River does the same but with all Magnolia they need to be big before you get a lot of flowers to make up for ones browning or being blown off.
Thanks berghill, 'yellow bird' is top of my list at the minute, as appears to be the most 'true' yellow, even when flowers fully open - is this your experience of it??
'yellow river' whilst widely available in garden centres now, I understood to only be yellow in bud, and fading v. Quickly to cream once open.
Also looked at 'lois' and 'daphne' not sure.......
It does keep its colour better than some of the others. Ours is as I said, only a small tree, but it has had up to 5 flowers on it each season since we bought it. More buds this year as it has grown a little.
PS WE bought it because when I counted the Magnolias in the garden I found 13 of them. After we planted it i found another one which I had missed so now we have 15 of them.
Ha ha, oopsie!!
thanks!!
