Triffid Weed

Hello Everyone
While i was sorting my garden out in the early days came acroos these Triffid looking weeds they are horrible these ones in the photo were easily 6ft tall as thick as your wrist roots weren't very deep as they were easily pulled up but when you touched them the seeds popped everywhere.
They are hard to get under control as i still get them all over the allotment.
Any ideas what they are

Thanks
Baz

Sounds like it's Himalayan balsam which is an invasive species. Not sure how easy it will be to get rid of it totally
That photo was taken 2 years ago and they were all over the place .Last year i pulled them up before they matured but like you say its hard to get rid of totally
It looks like Himalayan Balsam as well.
Don't let it seed and hoe the seedlings off. But if it's on other allotments or growing wild nearby it will be impossible to eliminate. It is only and annual so once you've hoed one off that one is gone.
In the sticks near Peterborough
certainly sounds and looks like Himalayan Balsam. We get them all along the river and, of course, the current spreads them everywhere the river flows. However, I thought they were a 'water loving plant' as I don't think I've ever seen them in fields, hedgerows etc. Either way if you don't chop them off /pull them up before the seeds form you will be unlikely to get rid of them without drastic chemical action
At least i can put a name to them now they were really bad at the bottom of my garden last year and yes DorestUK had to resort to strong chemical weed killer i'll not know till we get properly into spring to see if i still have lots or a few either way i'll be pulling them up as soon as i see them
Thanks

Yes, Himalayan Balsam
When we lived in the city centre with small back yards out neighbour grew some - it spread along the whole street in a couple of years - just keep pulling them up as soon as you see them - at least the seedlings are easily recognisable
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Now spring has sprung the Himalayan Balsam is making a rapid appearence seedlings popping up all over. Like you said dovefromabove at least the seedlings are recognisable been spraying them with weed killer and ripping them up
WHAT A PAIN THESE ARE
