Dormant or Dead Berberis x lologensis 'Apricot Queen'?

Hi, I ordered this plant last autumn and it was delivered toward the end of autumn. I potted it up and have watered it and kept it in a sunny position. I'm a relatively experienced garden, and don't feel it's due to over watering or the like. However over winter most of the leaves have all slowly dropped off, despite this being an ever green. There are no signs of spring growth. And I'm now anxious that what I thought would be a lovely first spring display is now being replaced by a dead/dying shrub. What do you suggest? There are a few green leaves left

It doesn't sound good, have you got a photo?

Have you kept the receipt?  I agree with Nut, it sounds as if it's on its way out...

Berberis Apricot Queen is a stunning plant, I can't imagine why it's not grown more often.

When I left school and started work in a local GC we had one planted next to the path leading to the front door. We could never source enough to keep up with demand when it was in flower.

Good luck with it , or a replacement.

  • When does it start into sorting growth. Is mine still maybe dormant?

I'd say there should be signs of life now, even if just tiny buds developing.

  • I contacted VM and they've offered to replace it. No questions. So that's great. Due to come April so I hope to get some flowers this year.
