moving roses
me again..
also I have 4/5 rose bushes that I would love to move, ive heard that this is the time of year to shift them, they have been planted in a very narrow concrete boarder, will they be easy enough to lift, and planting, is horse manure recommended?? thanks again x

Hi Nellie move asap, water very well, use microrhizal fungi lots of manurpre, I've moved 3 very successfully, 1 too early to say, good luck
Hi Nellie, Make sure you firm them in well, the are prone to rocking in the wind especially if they are in an exposed spot.
Early spring is the best time to move a rose. If it's dormant that's even better! If moved early enough when it wakes up it won't even know it was moved. If the ground is dry or you haven't had rain for a while then water them the day before the move. Dig your new holes first, then dig up the roses and move them into the new holes quickly. You can use a wheel barrow or a tarp to move them on so you don't break up the root ball. You want as little as possible disturbance to the roots. Water well and then every day for the first week. Do not fertilize them until you see new growth beginning on the canes.
Oops, forgot to tell you that horse manure makes excellent rose food!
