It depends what you put in the bug hotel Joe. The hotel part is really just to keep the rain off.
I made the pallet type so plenty of different levels to fill up.
So far I have upturned flower pots stuffed with straw for earwigs which I haven't seen many of since childhood.
2 litre plastic pop bottles, ends cut-off and stuffed with rolls of corrugated cardboard - that's for lacewings
Bundles of cut canes, bees
Bricks will the holes in the middle, loved by spiders
There are plenty more ideas and one can pick and mix with what one wants to encourage. Particularly helpful if you want to encourage beneficial species to control pests.
