I'm now pleased to say we have some frogspawn to watch.  I knew we'd find a use for our robofish fishtank !

Fascinated by how much they are changing by the hour nearly.  Glad to read that some do lie on the bottom looking inert, and they are just growing. I'll be running down the stairs tomorrow am to see how they've grown.  I'm as excited as the kids imageimage

    How are they doing Peanuts3?

Quick update on mine, now brown and speckled and looking more frog like. Most have been released now but keeping back 6 so I can post the rest of the development for Aviator.

Just waiting for some legs to develop. Keeping a close eye on them now as they will start to get a taste for meat and I'll have to switch from the boiled lettuce to fish food, else they will eat each other. image

Hi Gemma, thanks for the update.  I did the same as you, we released the majority of the tadpoles and have kept back 7 of different sizes, still just black at the moment.

let me know when yours get legs.  I purchased some fish food for them today as well, so now its a matter of wait and see. We're loving seeing them change.

  • Wow fab pics! Spotted masses of frog spawn in the pond a couple of days ago, I think its safe from the 70 odd Koi and goldfish in there as its such as large mass (some fresh on the top this morning). Im keeping the fish well fed just in case, Im also guessing that its best not to interfere since there were clearly some frogs around from last  year to create the offspring... exciting!

Tadpoles have grown legs, a pair of back ones, but only one leg visible in the picture. Quite hard to get a picture as they hide them underneath themselves when they sit still..

Looking more frog like now, all four legs have grown but they still have long tails. They will absorb the tails into their bodies and will be hopping about on land soon image:

    I'm a frog!

The first frog to emerge from the water.

Bit of a story about this, went to check on them this morning, had six at the same stage in a shallow tray. Could only find five. So I quickly realised that one had managed to get out.

A frantic search of the living room followed, found him hiding behind the TV set.

He wasn't in a good way, very dehydrated and so weak he was only barely able to move I thought I had lost him for sure. He spent the day in an ice cream tub in very shallow water, enough to re-hydrate him, but shallow enough that he couldn't drown.

Glad to say this evening he's made a full recovery and as the picture shows, he is trying to escape again. He's pictured climbing up the side of th ice cream tub and has been hopping, so all seems well.image The tub has a lid that shuts properly. image

So I guess that's the end of the story, the rest of the tail will be fully absorbed within a few days and for the most part he will live on land until it is time to breed in 2-3 years time.
