Cornflowers. Or phacelia tanacetifolia, or flax.
Can you elaborate on what the flower looked like?
Larkspur?
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
The plant was a bit scraggly and about 2'+ stems but lovely blue flowers, the leaves might have had an aroma to them, but not sure. Would Borage be that big? Any pics I can find only show plant top .
Sounds like cornflower or possibly Nigella (Love in a mist). The good news is that both of these flowers are hardy annuals and seed freely so you'll probably get loads of free flowers this year.
Thanks guys
I've looked on Google (new to techno) thought it looked like the one with slightly grey green furry leaves but couldn't get a name
on my phone I took pics last year and it wasn't as tall as I thought, in fact a little more bushy but still had blue flowers I didn't get that wrong.
do you think if I don't mess about with that patch the plant could have self seeded? Is that how wild flower mix work?
Centaurea?
Not sure I would have classed it as a wild flower though. They are perennial and my clumps of leaves have overwintered. They are definitely grey furry leaves. Although the flowers are similar to cornflower which I would have thought more likely to be in a wildflower mix as suggested by fidget and dorcas.
These seeds camefrom M&S, Marks and Sparks?
In the sticks near Peterborough
Yes were a free voucher from somewhere magazine or paper I think
