Lily planting advice
in Plants
Am I too late to plant Turk's Cap and Tiger Lililes?
I get mixed advice from websites on when best to plant them. Turks Cap seem very expensive too, and I'd like to know where the best place is to buy them from.
I would like to plant some of each in borders, including dappled shade of our woodland garden. Is this a good idea? How should I care for them? Which species would be best for dappled shade?
Also....are slugs and snails a problem?
If I plant them in pots instead, presumably they'd have to be pretty deep ones - is that right?
Any advice welcome - thank you!

There is still time to plant lilies. Bulb prices vary, but generally you pay more for bigger bulbs, and they give the best flowers. If they are in pots, it is easier to stop snails eating the new shoots. They need a rich well drained soil, and plant at least six inches deep. If you use pots they need to be deep pots, so you can have drainage at the bottom, then some compost, then the bulb, then another six inch of compost.
Feed throughout the season. The worst pest is the red lily beetle. Destroy all lily beetles on sight. They are not native, and there is no natural predator.
Turks cap and tiger lilies are both fine in dappled shade.
Thanks, *fidgetbones* ! Not sure if I have pots that deep though....!
