sweetcorn

I am planning to grow  sweetcorn in a large container this year; would I be able to grow round head cabbage and cauliflower around the edge? What other veg could I grew.  The container size is about 680x460x340

When sweetcorn is planted in the ground the classic plant to grow under it is butternut squash, which wanders about at the corn's feet, out of the way. I've never grown sweetcorn in containers. It's tall and will give some shade.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

You know that the usual way to grow sweetcorn is in blocks don't you? 12 to 18 inches apart I would think is about right, how many plants can you get into your container at those spacings and still get anything around the base.

    Hi image

Its worth a go, i think 3 sweetcorn plants at the most in a large container, "they" say you can grow french beans up the stalks, but ive yet to succed with this, the beans always get overtaken by the corn and squash, i wonder if runner beans would be better?

I suppose you could grow cucumbers up the corn? Whatever you choose, that pot will need a heck of a lot of feeding! image
