Joyce, blueberries require a very low pH - around 4.5. Sulphur may work, but all soil will eventually return to its natural acidity level. They grow wonderfully well in large pots, so if you have room inside your cage, I would recommend you grow them in ericaceous compost in large pots rather than trying to change the acidity level of your garden soil. You could bury the pots if necessary.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
I have had blueberries in my garden for years as a chef I love growing my own fruit and veg plus herbs . I have found that blueberries produce the best cops at a soil ph of 5.2 but must never go above ph 5.5 but good crops from ph4.5 if the ph rises above 5.5 then use sulphur chips to reduce ph to keep ph high use lime hatch fertiliser also confer or pine needles can be dug in to help acid levels. I grow vaccinium corymbosum duke this is semi fertile gives large and medium sweet juicy berries that grow in clumps there great and I water with rain water not tap water also have nelson and spartan they are great too the duke is mid to late and nelsonnelson fruits first early and spartan goesAT&T the same time as the duke giving me fruit from June to end October hope this helps
