I've cut it back like Ed said so next step find a bigger pot & use John In Em's number 3 with some bonemeal? I don't really want to prune it back as new growth at ends? Shal I removes spotted leaves?
I'd still cut it back Nic, you'll end up with bushier growth if you do and more of it. That's the whole reason to prune it back. Being brave gets better results.
If it's pruned Edd you'd get new growth in a month and twice as much as there is now. As I suggest to Nic, it's the whole point of pruning and now is the time to do it. If it's pruned now by mid summer the whole plant will be twice the size and Nic will have twice the colour he has now.
I'm with Dave on that one. I use to be reluctant to cut back but have proved to myself that it's the way to go.
The turning point was some years ago when I had 2 laurels limping along. The electricity wires people dropped a tree branch on one and snapped it. I cut it right back and within a year it was bigger than the one I'd left alone
