Last year I planted 100 bulbs and found 100 holes a few days later! Now I only grow bulbs in pots and overwinter in the greenhouse. On the plus side, the squirrels are amusing to watch and as well as hiding windfalls in my hanging baskest I've seen one running down the garden with a birdfeeder of nuts under its arm (leg?) !
I have 2 cats and a dog who keep the squirrels out of the garden, the squirrels mostly keep the cats busy and then they leave the birds alone. I always water the soil after planting, pick up all the debris from the bulbs and then release the beasts.
