Has anyone else tried to grow these from seed and if so how did you get on? I put some seeds in a few weeks ago but no sign of life yet. Many years ago I did have a roscoea plant in the garden. Well, until the dog stood on it! Poor thing didn't survive....

    What type of roscoea?

. I managed to germinate some R. Cautleyoides from the Kew beauty plants I have. I planted the seed as soon as the pods split. They died down last year, and I am waiting to see if they reappear in May.

I had a look at the pot they're in yesterday and tiny green shoots seem to be making an appearance ????. Cross your fingers for me!! Had a look at the seed packet too and all it says is 'roscoea mixed '

Thats good. They dont grow much in the first year, probably only a couple of broad grass like leaves. Keep them out of bright sunshine, and dont let them dry out.

Many thanks. I got all excited when i saw green shoots in my pot! ????. But with hindsight, many many years ago I tried to grow native orchids from seed (can't even remember what kind it's that long ago). I nurtured that pot to within an inch of its life! And a lovely healthy green shoot appeared. Was really pleased with myself! Until it turned out to be the best blade of grass I've ever seen!! True story

They look a bit broader then common grass seedlings. None of my roscoeas are shooting yet. The later years, you get a nose poking through the soil around May.
