Question for David if you're around, the ones in the pot ( of which I promise to plant half what I have this year 3 instead of 6) that got powders mildew, is this what's making the flowers distorted and very small?

  • I presume you mean the stems, rosemummy....stems of all sweet peas reduce in length as the season progresses and nothing much can be done to avoid it,

I've noticed those picked by Monty Don on GW, have had stems not much more than 5/6 inches long.

No David, it' s the actual flower heads, they look like kind of half sweet peas! I haven't taken any more photos, I' ll wait til next year when I gave something positive to show!

  • Poor, rosemummy....you've really had a rotten sweet pea season. image I have to confess, I have never seen the problem you are describing.

the sweet peas i grew in the front garden quickly got overshadowed by the million geraniums that overtook everything, so i only got a few that made it up to the the light, those that did are few but lovely, hope that makes you smile david i did get come nice ones!!
