Sick tree

Hi I'm going to put some pictures up of an apple tree that was planted last year and didn't leaf or fruit but was alive.  This year the tree does seem to be just alive but the colour of the Trunk and branches varies fro light to dark, does anyone have any ideas of the problem and the cure please?

Take a couple of photos back to where you bought it from and ask what they are going to do about it. It looks in its death throes, if not dead already.

It lived in a pot for a couple of years very happily and was only planted last year, up until then it was happy and healthy so I think it must be something in the soil possibly but am unsure what or how to treat it?

Thanks anyway, and you're right if it was new I'd be returning it!!

What time last year was it planted?

That black bit is dead so anything beyond that is dead as well.

Ok thankyou, I don't actually know where it came from it was a present, I would rather try to recover it if humanely possible but will speak to the person who gave it to me, it would also be helpful to know what is wrong with it for future referenceimage

Yes it is an odd colour, that's not the colour it was when planted! its an apple and it was put in the ground last spring, I posted on here to say it hadn't fruited or leaved even last year and everyone felt that it was in shock due to the move so i've been waiting to see what happens but its looking like the end of the road. Really I wondered if anyone thought it may be a soil problem so that I can treat the soil, though I know that apples often don't settle where apples have previously been so I need to rethink what I'm going to plant there if this is to be taken out.

Sorry Sal but anything that doesn't leaf up through the summer is deadimage

A tree can't survive without leaves.

No I guess you're right though last autumn it had live buds on it, I guess its coming out but any ideas what caused it?

When you say live buds, what exactly was there? Had they been there all summer and are they there now?
