It's officially spring, I've been shopping

autumngloryautumnglory Posts: 255

I'm starting from scratch with my garden and I've got lots of plants to buy, so I've been out today and bought my first couple of shrubs. I'm aiming to find all my plants and plant them all together over Easter so I can decide where to put them while I can move them around.

I'm a bit new to this and I'm wondering if the ones I've bought today be ok left outside in their pots for a few weeks? I'm assuming they'll be fine as they were outside at the garden centre, but I don't want to kill them!

If they were outside at the GC they should be OK  but if you give us a list we'll know for sure.

I've only bought a couple. Berberis admiration, skimmia reevesiana and nandina domestica.

I've looked at the weather forecast and it's supposed to be pretty cold this week, snow has been mentioned!

I'd protect the Nandina especially but might as well look after them all. Right up against the house or over freezing nights in the garage maybe. But don't keep any of them in a warm house

I usually give new plants a week's grace from outside at GCs just because I can't be sure it not hot out some nursery polytunnel image and either bring them in at night or just wrap up in a bit of fleece image

Love Berberis and Nandina is one of my favourite shrubs for year round interest

Thanks, I'll put them in the conservatory overnight I think, it's nice and cold in there.

Nandina domestica is the toughest varietyimage Some other Nandinas are more delicate
