Hellebore plug plants
Hi. I have received five Hellebore plug plants through the post. They are in tiny pots about 2 inches across. I am not sure whether to pot them up or plant them out. I would usually pot up but I think they are not keen on root disturbance. I have got them on an open porch area to harden off.
Thanks x

Depending on where you are in the country, after hardening off I would risk planting them out. They are fairly tough and if there was any worry about hard frosts you could always cover them at night with fleece or even newspaper - remembering to remove in the morning. My hellebores seed themselves all over the place and are looking particularly fine right now.

Oh no
I was just about to run out and plant them. Not sure what to do now! Would they be ok potted up in ordinary compost Verdun. I might be able to find some leaf mould from the bottom of the stack. They are a double variety. Do you think that would make them any less tough than the single ones.
thanks both of you
I'd go with Verdun on this one. His hellebore advice is usually good.
Also common sense says they're too small for garden life .
Roots aren't disturbed when you plant out a pot grown specimen.
In the sticks near Peterborough
Thanks for the advice everyone. Judith
