What to do this time of year

Can anyone give me any ideas on what to do this time of year in the garden. I've been a gardener for about a year and one of my customers has a fairly small garden and I need some suggestions as to what I can do as nothing really needs pruning and the grass doesn't need cutting. Is there any bulbs I can plant? Maybe some bark or mulch on the borders? Thanks in advance.

  • I'm also a gardener and there is so much to get done before the growth kicks in! Dividing perennials, roses, hedges etc

Perhaps more importantly: what does your CUSTOMER want? Yes we could be suggesting you pop a top coat of well rotted horse manure on the flower beds (I really need to do mine) but if there's nothing your customer wants (i.e. no plants she wants in summer that need sinking in now) why not save them the expense of your visit?

  • Well yesterday I was mostly disinfecting the greenhouse and I moved the worm composter boxes out of the shed back to it's position behind the shed, I straightened the insect mesh barrier around the overwintering broad beans and cut the autumn raspberries down to the ground. I only visit the allotment once a week at the minute although I will pop up there on Friday to pick some veg for Sunday dinner.

I hate living on clay at times, what to do in the garden right now? Nowt, it has to dry out after the winter first. All my gardening is happening in the potting shed and propagator at the moment. image

  • I works as a gardener and traditional February is a hit and miss month for external gardening works

you could possibly carry out some lawm maintenance possibly  in March, such as scarifying , areacting , repairs and top dressing

    planting perennial bulbs

increasing stock by lifting and deviding perennials

    resite summer flowering shrubs

    de-weed and mulch over boarders

everthing this time of the year depends on the weather and temperature if you can carry out these works
