penstemon

Am I to late in cutting back my plants? They have survived their first winter and are green from about halfway up about 40cm stems.

I'd leave them a few more weeks. All of last year's foliage will protect the crown further down from frosts. Only trim them if they're rocking due to wind, otherwise leave until the worst of the cold weather has passed

I generally tidy mine up a bit now just removing any stems that are over a path or in the way of other plants etc.or cut very tall stems back a bit but I always leave on as much as possible until the weather warms up.

Well done Primrose, so many people too eager to chop down, prune,  sow etc. You will be rewarded for waiting.

Always leave mine til early April - they are normally the last to get their winter tidy-up
