Milk container seed starters - outside

in Fruit & veg

Has anyone tried starting seeds outside in covered plastic containers? I've seen it on Pinterest, so planted up a few last night and put them in a sunny place surrounded by some concrete blocks to keep them from blowing away. (The above picture is from a Google search).
Have you tried it? Any suggestions? The promise is plants are tough and ready for pricking/planting out without hardening off. I suppose as you are opening the tops on hot days towards the end. Is the sunny location right, or should they be a bit more shaded?

I have not used them but seen a good example when at a garden show, which I may try
I won't be growing on in the containers, rather just pricking out and popping right into the garden once they have true leaves. I've stayed clear of plants that dislike disturbance.
I use 2lt water bottles as cloches over newly planted stuff thats a little on the tender side, works for me, yours look like they will do the trick too, the best thing about this is when you have finished with them, you dont need to find a ton of space to store them, just chuck em in the recycling and collect new ones next year
