In theory it should, but in practice I would imagine your pod yield depends ultimately on how well you feed them . Feeding them with a 1:10 dilution of compfrey liquid will increase the number of flowers and therefore pea pod production. Stopping the sweet pea plant encourages the main stem to branch and thereby produce more flowers via the lateral side shoots. I don't think the same applies to the pea plant grown for it's size of pea .
