From afar I thought they were very early celandines but no. Under trees with the odd crocus in amongst

    What a great photo. They're aconites, Eranthus hyemalis



    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • They are eranthis hyemalis, often called yellow aconites though they aren't!

    Thank you everyone.  We noticed them from quite a distance because they were literally glowing in the sun so we just had to go and investigate.  I had my camera because we were out watching my grandaughter having a dressage lesson and I'd been filming her.

    Karen (daughter) says she has a patch which has recently 'appeared' on the bank beside their horse schooling paddock at home.  Think I'll pop round later with my trowel image
