Nerines are a South African plant so need a good hot bake in the summer. Bowdenni like to be very crowded either is open ground or pots, soil with plenty of grit in it and not too much feeding, which produces lots of leaves and no flowers. They can be grown in pots or open ground but do not like prolonged frost. It is best to let them dry off totally during the summer, treated like amarylis they should do well.
I have several named varieties which have to be grown indoors and are shy to flower, some are also inclined to divide very quickly so it is difficult to grow bulbs of flowering size. As soon as the flowers have died off I begin feeding with weak tomato feed until the leaves begin to die off, then leave them alone until the new growth shows around Sept/Oct time when I give water only.
There is no reason why you cannot grow them in pots under cover until they are in flower, sink the pots in the garden until they have finished flowering and then move them under cover again.

Thank you all for your great advice!
I am indeed growing Bowdenni bulbs and will probably be finally planting them this weekend, as the weather forecast is good!
I have some white ones which were delivered 3 weeks ago but will also plant them out at the weekend - hope you have a glorious display this autumn.
Do they produce more than one spike of flowers per bulb?
