Mystery purple plant identification
Mystery purple plant i.d.

Theres two plants in this picture i would like to ID. I'm really struggling.
The top purple plant in the pot, i'm guessing that is some kind of ACER?
The plant directly below the potted plant (yes i know its one branch with a curved branch coming off it...) This was a big bush, twice the height it is now, with purple leaves spreading over most of the area where the logs are.
Unfortunatley it got hit... a few times by falling branches as we removed the trees.
If you click on the picture it should come up bigger, the plant has deep purple leaves, thin, growing out in pairs from the main branch, with a single thin leaf on the end.
It also has purple berries (or had) and it has since dropped all of its leaves, but is sending out new bright purple buds trying to grow again.
Does anyone have any idea on this plant?

Even having zoomed in on the picture it's far too indistinct to identify the plants properly. Please can you show us individual close ups of each plant, showing the shape of leaves, texture of bark etc.

I can't take any more pictures as they are just twigs now, which isn't much help, but this is the best picture i have of the main plant i want to ID
I've cropped it as the photo hosting site is reducing the quality.
See if this works....
At a guess and from this distance the one against the wall is one of the dark leaved elders Sambucus Nigra, possibly 'Black Lace' . I still can't see it clearly but the pattern of growth looks right.
Does the one in the pot have similar leaves - does it look the same as the larger one?

i'm 99% its a japanese maple of sorts, That will probably be a give-away plant as i'm not too fond of it.
Hmmm...the leaves remind me of Lilac. But it's still a bit too far away.
I think Dove is right about Sambucus.

Oh wow! I think you are right with the sambucus nigra, (related to elderberry if google serves me well!)
Apparently its edible when cooked too. ooh exciting!! I know i'm sorry for the poor pictures, i have one from further away but i'm sure thats no help!
Googling pictures of other plants, the pictures that come up are 10x closer to anything else i've searched. Thanks!!
The Sambucus Nigra is a spectacular shrub,Vib Cake.....needs some room, but shown off well beside the golden version.
Lilac leaves look very different - they're a sort of heart-shape and look like this
