Rolling Lawn Aerator

Hello,

I'm thinking of getting a rolling lawn aerator similar to the picture below, has anyone any experience of using them? Are they worth the money. I can't really justify the price of a powered one so this would be the alternative.

 Thanks in advance

  • They are useless!

if you have a big area it's worth getting someone in to do it as to rent one I think the minimum hire around me is 2 days.  Or just take your time with a fork like I do

    in a word: NO

    Devon.
  • Useless unless you have really soft soil under the lawn (then why do you need to aerate!). A neughbour bought one, filled it with water and it did nothing without really pushing it down into the lawn and then it broke...and that was not a cheap one.image

If you think of how you use a garden fork,  you need weight to push those points into the soil - a machine as small as that can never have as much weight as you yourself can apply. I would hire a properly designed tool or, as Billy Goat says, just use the fork.
