Honeysuckle Vs Dog...

LucyLLucyL Posts: 163

I planted a Honey suckle clipping last year to grow up beside my clematis (class A i'v found out) weather this was a good decision im now not too sure?

Well anyways, it was growing and gave me one stem with a flower on the end - i was delighted, and then winter set in it was fine, now snow has gone it started to grow again, and sprout leaves and buds! well.... the Dog who has been VERY good in the garden decided she needed a stick... so i have now found my honeysuckle missing a bout 30cm piece and is now completely severed...

What is the best way to keep this now "Cutting" alive? I usually stick them into a vase of water and levae till they start to root, is this the best method?

Thanks

  • Is the root still in the ground?  If the dog has just taken the top off then she's done you a favour and pruned the honeysuckle - it will grow sideshoots and give you a much better plant - a clever dog with green paws image

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Yes the root and a bit of it is still in the ground, but the top half is now not connected. haha well maybe she's alot smarter dog than even i had thought (thinking now i have trimmed every plant except this one- as it was little and thought leaving it would make it better lol)
