Pruning Lavatera and Digitalis Ferruginea
Hello,
Both these plants flowered for the first time last year.
The lavatera is about 5' tall - my instinct is to cut it like a buddlea and that new growth will grow out the old and flower this year...is this correct?
The Digitalis Ferrunginea I chopped in half yesterday and is now about a metre tall. There is new growth in the form of rosettes at the base but also some new tufts on the stems - I think I should chop this to the ground (?) but later on or now?
Also my soft rush is still green - I vaguely remember cutting this down last year - when should this been done?
Many thanks for your help (I'm in a chopping mood!)

The digitalis is a short lived perennial, sometimes just a biennial. Cut the dead flower stalks to the ground. Best treated as biennials in my view.
I think you can treat lavatera like buddleia.

Thanks Nut - hope some of my DF seeds germinate then.
The D Laevigata (sp?) you gave me have germinated by the way so thank you
. The grandiflora I've sown a second batch of - it looked like they were getting eaten while still very small...
I think lavatera should be cut to around 12 inches from base I believe
Glad the laevigata have germinated Vic
I wonder what are the grandiflora, I hope they get digitalin poisoning

I couldn't see what ate them, it was just an impression I got - they seemed to disappear slowly not long after they appeared
Fortunately you sent enough for a few tries
Thanks Rhod - I'll have to get the hackateurs on it - it looks sturdier than I thought...
