rosemary

hi image

I have a rather over grown rosemary bush in a very annoying spot, I want to just dig it out, can I take cuttings from it, cut it all back and try to get it in a pot?? or best just dig it out for waste?? thanks image

I would take cuttings in early Summer then dig it out and get rid. Im presuming its gotten pretty woody at the base?

  • Hi nellie, you really need to wait until late April or May before taking cuttings.  You need the fresh new shoots as rosemary probably won't root from old wood.  There are details of how to do it in the 'How to' section:

The old bush may or may not survive being transplanted into a pot (I wouldn't give it much chance to be honest), so I would wait until you have rooted a few cuttings before risking it.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • ok great thanks, sorry if asking dumb questions, but gardening is really new to me, and trying to find way around this site, everyone seems really friendly and helpful though so thankyou image
