Has anyone been on suttons web site lately they are advertising plant o matt it has bulbs inserted in it the bulbs are various  height and colour and  the matt is bio so breaks down  all you do is pop it in a pot cover it and  water  hey presto after a while you have plants . what does everyone think of this do you think it is a good  idea or do you think its a bit like  flat pack gardening image

  • I think that idea takes half the fun/pleasure out of gardening.   Same thing as ready cooked meals, not my cup of tea.

  • I quite like the crocosmia/iris one but I agree with 1 of 7 - coming up with the idea is half the fun, even if it doesn't quite work outimage

  • How difficult can it be to pop some bulbs in a pot with some compost?  Doesn't appeal to me I'm afraid - as others have said, it takes all the fun out of it image

I agree with you girls i enjoy creating what my garden is going to fingers crossed look like luckily i have the time to do it . thinking about it i think this is why they have come out with this if you are busy and dont have the time and want a nice garden then what better than to have as 1 of 7 says ready made plants basically when they go ping there ready image

  • Yes, I think you are right Wills. I know people who don't garden at all but I think this would appeal to them if there were simple instructions of the back of the box etc...especially for pots I think...

Presumably you still have to supply a pot and compost and then water them sometimes.  Bit like buying Yorkshire pudding/pancake mix and having to add egg and milk, and cook it

Very true they provide the ingredient you provide the add ons , if they do this with bedding plants is anyone going to bother sowing & growing there own or will it be easier to buy there plant o matt buy compost cover & water then wait for the plants to pop through image

Sounds awful to me. Like the difference between a ready meal and home cooked with fresh ingredients. How difficult is it to find a decent site selling bulbs and make your own choice?
  • Lidl and Aldi have been selling what looks like the identical items, only cheaper. I tried one out last year - the one with the crocosmia and iris. The irises grew and flowered, only one was blue instead of white, and the crocosmia only produced a few leaves and no flowers. It was a bit dismal! I'll stick to planting my own combinations in future.
