grass cutting

Does anyone know when its ok to do the first grass cut? Mine is looking a wee bit shaggy so must be growing even if very slowly. There aren't any frosts forecast so I was wondering whether I could do a cut on the highest setting?

I'll be grateful for any advice.

As long as frost is not forecast you can cut it at any time

  • the odd winter cut on a dry day to 'tidy up' it fine on a high setting. Otherwise wait until grass starts growing in late march/April.

"Wait until grass starts growing...", like Verdun, my grass hasn't stopped all through the winter.  It's too wet to cut at present but I'm certainly going to have to do successive cuts at different settings to get it back under control.

  • Mine has carried on growing too KT and is now looking quite messy, I'm on well drained ground for the most part - except for the bog at the bottom of the garden that can only be strimmed - so a couple of rainless days and I'll get the mower out then.

    Thanks everyone for the help.
