Stipa tenuissima pony tails, moving, dividing etc.

I planted a lot of these, i think about 10 and now have lots more self seeded in the same bed.  I'd like to move some to colonise another area.  Is it too early to lift and move?  I was thinking of taking out the older/larger ones for the new area, and leaving the newer smaller ones where the are to establish further.  Would that be a good idea, or better to divide?
