Sainsbury's Orchids
Sorry to advertise but this supermarket has been selling some really bonkers Orchids for £5. I'm just wondering if someone can identify some of the varieties as some I haven't seen before.
I think one of them is dendrobium kingianum but they have a few interesting ones for sure.
Thanks

Most of them are phelonopsis the moth orchid, (sorry about the spelling)
I have a Dendrobium Black Spider. Lots of googling! Phew!
All gone now! These Orchids were on a single trolley so I guess it was a one hit wonder. I went back there to see if they had some new plants; alas no.
If you click on the above image it shows the photo the right way up.
Hi motorman1. I have seen orchids in their stores quite often for that price. Also check out ASDA, TESCO, LIDL and ALDI (sorry, no advertising intended
). In LIDL I found a Christrose (Heleboris Niger) for the stunning price of £ 1.95 about three weeks ago. I wish I'd bought more than one, as they went like hot cakes. Worth popping into these stores for garden plants and roomies. On Monday they had some nice shrubs of which I bought a forsythia and a spiraea for about £ 3.49 each.
If you like the orchids, ask the store management if they can tell you when they get some more delivered?
Yes motorman1 I bought one of those with tiny flowers from Sainsbury's and posted photos on here for some identification advice, as it had no specific instruction on the label. So I' delighted that you've told me it looks just like the kingianum. I'll know how to look after it now.
I also went back to get another one after a friend admired mine but no sign of them.
Yes, you're right motorman1. The orchid on the right side is a hybrid of Dendronbium kingianum. The one on the left looks like a Zygopetalum species.
That Dendrobium 'Black Spider' is absolutely gorgeous!! I'd love to be able to buy one but apparently they are'nt available in my country. Bummerrr
Major thanks for all that. It may be Zygopetalum Louisendorf Rhein Moonlight. Have a look see on what to do with this beast. I think the kingianum needs cooler conditions and doesn't mind a bit of sun. (see what you Folks say)
My brother in law works in Sainsburys he regularly brings home orchids for my sister. He usually pays £1 for orchids that's were selling for £25. They have a nice collection of them now.
Willow kitten I have brought a few lidl plants myself. Never had a problem with them. Always cheap healthy plants.
