Have just checked out Harvey's website - looks like they are rejigging it at the moment so not much to see or order - hopefully will be better soon. They have an award winning tea room if you are visiting and need somewhere to leave someone with a book or newspaper.
They are still very much a nursery rather than a garden centre so they are relatively small - but the display beds are good, the event days are excellent and the staff are very knowledgable..
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
I divided one fairly small plant last year in late spring. I didn't realise what they were until I saw the flower stalks appearing a couple of weeks ago.
So in my experience they can be divided. Also in quite a dry and well draining bed in full sun but as said mine are fine.
Thanks, *Topbird*, though I suspect Someone will be following me anxiously to make sure I don't spend too much rather than sitting relaxing with a newspaper......
*Berghill* I'm glad you pointed that out (different treatment for different varieties) because I wouldn't have known and I'd probably have gone and hacked all the leaves off. Though I have been admiring Penny's splendid marbled foliage! I'll leave them be, then, apart from snipping off manky leaves.
I'd better google x ericsmithii. Have ordered a book about hellebores so that should furnish me with more gaps in my knowledge
If you find the prices at Ashwood are a bit steep (and you can bear to be patient), there is a strain called Harvington Hybrids available as plug plants at www.twelvenunns.co.uk. Click 'Hellebore Pot Plants' on the menu bar at top of screen.
I found a couple of larger examples at a local GC late last autumn for £5.99 each (Single White Speckled and Single Yellow Speckled). One is flowering already, the other not far behind - they appear to have outward-facing flowers and are gorgeous!
