  • Hi Kelly.

    This sounds like sooty mould.

Aphids and scale insects excrete a sugary substance and this turns into sooty mould.

You can wipe it off the leaves with week soapy water. I don't think the mould itself harms the plant, it just looks unsightly. It might be a bit time consuming as it's a big bush.

  • hiya , no its just at the top of my patio, no trees, and wowww that was a quick reply!!! thankyou very  much ..image

  • Yes sooty mould and you do need to get rid of it,a plant kind of lives through its leaves and if they are blocked up the leaves will drop off and the plant will suffer.

There is no spray to get rid of sooty mould just clean it bit by bit by wiping it off the leaves with tepid water, you will also need to spray it to kill the aphids. If you don't get rid of the aphids it will just happen again.

    good luck

  • ahhh bless you ALL image * Thankyou so much , i will get on it tommorow!!!!!! first thing ........kellie*xx*
