Plant labels & squirrels !

Does anyone have any advice on good palnt labels. I dutifully put labels in where all the bulbs were when the died back and the pesky squirrels went through the whole flowerbed pulling them out.
Any recommendations to outwit them ?
Was thinking of stones with names painted on them? Any other ideas ?

Chickens are just as bad! They do it to my plant trays when I put seedlings out to harden off.
Stones should work, if they aren't into weightlifting, or you could try less visible labels. I know you can get black ones that you either scratch with a stylus or write on with a silver pen. A bit more expensive, but much less of an eyesore than the white ones. Or you could try something a bit bigger maybe, like plasterers' laths and black marker, that would at least make it harder for them. Of course, you might just end up with lots of squirrels with big biceps!
Hi Peanuts it's the blackbirds who do it here and grub around deeply and pull my bulbs up that's my reward for feeding them
