Astilbe Chinensis 'Purpurkerze'
in Plants
Afternoon All
As a newbie to gardening can anyone offer me some advice on the Purpurkerze I have in my garden?
Throughout the spring into summer it has beautiful purple candles and large volumes of green foliage and then it turns brown. I kept them as I think they look quite nice.
Now springs approaching should I cut them down, heads off etc to promote new growth.
Apologies for the ignorance!
Any help appreciated.

It is best to cut them down before too much new growth appears. The shoots can be fragile and it makes it harder to get at the old stems.
I leave my astilbe flower heads on too and just cut them off when there are signs of new growth.
Thanks all. Just to compound my display of ignorance, am i right that I just take the heads off? Not the whole stem.
