Taking a cutting from a wisteria?
in Plants
Ok, I've another question, we have a huge old wisteria plant growing along one side of our house. We have the same aspect in another part of the house, that we'd like to also grown wisteria along. Is it possible to take a cutting from wisteria? if so, how do I do that and how long does it take to get established. Finally, does wisteria grown well if its not in the ground. The part of the house where we'd like to grow it has two big iron tubs about a foot deep and two foot across.

Try layering a long whippy shoot. Peg it down and leave for a year to root. Then transplant to where you want it.
Hi, I will give that a try. I have a lovely old wisteria which is more like a tree than a bush. it is lovely every year covered with flowers. So it would be nice if I could take cuttings. Will keep you posted.
so is now a good time of year to take a long whip shoot. and do I have to peg it down in a compost pot, or the place I'd like it to grow (sorry - I'm a complete novice??!)
