Garrya elliptica 'James Roof'

in Plants
I have featherboard fencing in my garden. I was thinking of growing this particular Garrya to hide a section of the fence. However, my garden is not particularly large and I don't want to lose too much of the flower borders. Has anyone had any success in growing it fairly flat against a wall/fence.

Hi there,
I've got a garrya eliptica growing on an east facing fence and its lovely. I prune it to manageable size after flowering and it makes a lovely focal point that can be kept to a reasonable size. My only advice is make sure you stake it well as mine unfortunately is getting a bad lean on it other than that lovely shrub which can be underplanted with lots of perrenials or spring bulbs
