Poppy Identification

I've brought some poppy seeds online but don't know what kind of poppy they are. The seller only callied the purple poppys and doesn't know the name, can anyone identify them from the picture below.

They look like the annual opium poppy, Papaver somniferum. Or it could be a type of the perennial oriental poppy. Have you got a photo of the leaves, ?  that would be definitive.

  • When i asked the seller they didn't know what it is because they inherited it in the garden when they brought the house. They have sold it as a perennial, Not got a pic of the leaves but i will ask the seller.

If its perennial, its similar to "pattys plum", but seeds may not come true to the parent.

  • Here is a pic of the plant the seed seller sent me.

That is a variety of Papaver somniferum, the opium poppy, an annual. Patty's Plum is an oriental poppy with much more divided leaves and perennial.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

They are annual opium poppies. They tend to seed around, but are not classed as perennial.

    Morning all.

At the risk of sounding predictable, it is b####y freezing again, no chance of snow melting.

OH told me as she left for work, to tidy the house, as cleaner coming. Why do all tend to do that?

I love opium poppies, never know where they will pop up. Often make far better combinations with other plants than I could ever design.

How can you lie there and think of England
