Is it OK to jet-wash a patio in Winter?

A friend of mine wants to borrow my jet-wash for cleaning his concrete patio this coming Thursday (Feb 5th). The weather forcast says the temp will be between +3 and 0c and it will be cold most of next week too.

I think he's nut's - apart from the sheer unplesantness in getting covered in Icy tapwater in near freezing temperatures, I'd have thought the water would seep in between the pation slabs and freeze-solid under them. As water expands when frozen, he'd run the risk of the patio cracking up or resting uneveningly as the Ice later melts.

So my question is, I am I right or is it OK to jet-wash a concrete patio winter?

Cheers in advance, Mike

I'd personally be more concerned about any water remaining in my pressure washer freezing and damaging it. image (But I'm selfish like that!)

  • Wouldn't dare do it until the Temps rise considerably!

No point in doing it now, there will be a lot more cold damp weather, it will be green again by April.

I wouldn't worry about water freezing because it is going to do that anyway - rain, snow and frost will take it toll. I would wait until I wanted to make regular use of the patio though or your friend will just have to do it twice.

  • Cheers everyone for you responses, much appeciated; thought it was a pretty silly thing to do!
