Joe's Woodland Inspiration

Having created a stumpery under our apple tree I am keen to plant under it in the woodland style as described by Joe.  I have already put in some snowdrop and daffodil bulbs.  My question is that if I want to creat such a space do I have to lift the grass from under the tree?

    Hi Pam image

I'm worried by the thought of a stumpery under an apple tree - it will provide the perfect conditions for over-wintering codling moth image

Perhaps Pam has upturned an old apple tree.

If that's the case you wouldn't need to remove the grass as anything covering grass will cause it to die.
